Carlo Piff is a seasoned mechanical inspector and HVAC professional with over four decades of experience in the heating and air conditioning industry. A proud graduate of Murphy High School’s Class of 1978, Carlo went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1982.
His career began early with A-C Contracting Co. Inc. in Mobile, Alabama, where he worked as a helper in the HVAC field and warehouse during high school, gaining firsthand experience with Manual J, D, and N load calculations. While attending college in Atlanta, he worked part-time with Stanley H. Kaplan Educational Centers, supporting office operations. Upon graduation, Carlo returned to Mobile, where he expanded his HVAC career with A-C Contracting Co. Inc. and A.A.P. Distributors. His roles spanned from field work and sales to operations management, reflecting his deep knowledge and versatility in the trade.
From 2008 to 2021, Carlo contributed his expertise at Head’s Heating and Air in Theodore, Alabama. There, he specialized in air conditioning diagnostics, airflow balancing, energy and moisture analysis, and project estimation for both residential and commercial jobs. In 2021, Carlo brought his extensive technical knowledge to public service as a Mechanical Inspector for the City of Mobile, where he continues to uphold high standards of building safety and code compliance.
Carlo held/holds numerous certifications and specialized training credentials, including ICC Residential and Commercial Mechanical Inspector certifications, BPI Building Analyst, EarthCraft, and EnergyStar rater credentials, and training as a Lead Abatement Inspector and CERT (Civilian Emergency Response Training) member. His professional development has been ongoing throughout his career, marked by a dedication to technical excellence and code enforcement.
He is also deeply involved in professional organizations. He served in multiple board roles with the Mobile Air Conditioning Contractors Association (MACCA) from the 1980s through 2021, including two terms as President. Currently, he is actively serving as the President of the Code Officials of Lower Alabama (COLA), following a term as Secretary in 2023–2024.
Outside of his professional life, Carlo is an avid gardener, traveler, and enthusiast of ultimate frisbee and disc golf—having competed in professional disc golf tournaments since the 1980s. He also enjoys coin collecting and has a strong interest in history. Bilingual in English and German, Carlo brings a unique perspective and dedication to every aspect of his work and personal endeavors.
